It has been an exciting week since the last Around the Pound, your one stop shop for all news on UIndyAthletics.com. Check it out each Monday to see how all the UIndy teams fared last week and find out when and where the Hounds will be competing in the days to come.
VOLLEYBALL
The third straight invitational weekend was the tale for UIndy volleyball, but this time it was not at home as the team travelled to Indiana, Penn. for the IUP Invitational. The Hounds returned to the circle city with a pair of wins and pair of losses, bringing their record to 7-4 at this point.
COACH'S CORNER
For this week's edition of the coach's corner, head volleyball coach
Jason Reed sat down to discuss his team at this point of the season.
Offensively the team has been led by
Hanna Sabotin who is averaging a staggering 3.28 points per set with 2.79 kills per set as well. Reed said that this type of growth out of Sabotin is the result of years of hard work.
"All the stuff that you see happening in season, most of the time is a result of the preparation that's been done prior to showing up on Friday and Saturday night," Reed said. "In the past few years that she's been here, she's worked her butt off and we've seen a lot of growth from her in the weight room. Seen a lot of dedication to her craft outside of practice time."
As a true freshman,
Sarah Spalding has been excellent in the setter role, sitting at 233 on the season at this point, having assisted on just over 37 percent of all Greyhound points.
"What's impressive, with her in that position is like, you don't see too many true freshman quarterbacks in football, and it's the same thing in our sport with the setter position," Reed said. "She's shown a pretty fair amount of moxy. She was just 17 for the first two weeks of the season, so for her to come in and kind of hit the ground running, it really is pretty impressive what she's doing."
The team now looks towards the future with conference play on deck as they travel to McKendree this Friday. Reed said that with the way the GLVC looks this year, they have to focus every week.
"Going into the conference this weekend, like we know that there are no there's no free weekends from from here on out," Reed said. "Everyone's gonna be good. Everyone's gonna be well scouted, everyone's gonna have a good game plan against us. We're gonna have a good game plan against them and it's gonna come down to execution and being mindful of all those things that we can control."
FOOTBALL
The UIndy football team found themselves at No. 25 in the country in this weeks polll. This comes off a 57-0 win with 447 yards of total offense against St. Xavier.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
The women's soccer squad ended up with their second tie of the season as they hosted Maryville on Sunday.
MaKenna Nickens kept the Saints off the board with a stellar performance in goal, recording three saves in the contest.
MEN'S SOCCER
The men's soccer team landed at No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll this past week. The Greyhounds went onto fall in a rainy day game to the Maryville Saints 1-0.
MEN'S GOLF
It was a northern trip for men's golf as they took on the Arendsen Invitational. The Greyhounds ended in eighth place in their first contest of the season.
Jacob Nickel and
