Good afternoon UIndy fans, there's a lot to be happy about in the Greyhound Nation and Around the Pound is your one stop shop for the good news. Be sure to check every Monday to see what has and will happen with your Greyhounds!
FOOTBALL
Football season is fully underway and UIndy football continues to thrill. Facing off with the Tiffin University Dragons, a team that knocked them off last year, the Hounds pulled off a miraculous comeback on the road, winning the game 27-20, scoring 14 points in the last six seconds of play. Starting quarterback
Conner Kinnett in the process slung the ball around for 190 yards for two touchdowns, earning himself GLVC Offensive Player of the Week honors. He was not alone in those honors, as wideout
Jerimiah Lee, who returned the opening kickoff 98 yards to the house, was awarded GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week. With a new 2-0 record, UIndy moves up to No. 16 in the country as well.

MEN'S TENNIS
For Tennis fans, it had been an exciting weekend full of action with the ITA DII Midwest Regional Championships being in town. The men's team was highlighted by a doubles championship by
Tom Zeuch and
Edgar Destouet, who have now etched their path to the ITA Cup in Rome G.A. in mid-October.
CROSS COUNTRY
It was season opener time for cross country as they travelled the hour trip to Terre Haunte, Ind. for the John McNichols Invitational held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
COACH'S CORNER
With their first race in the books, we sat down with Brad Robinson, the Head Coach of UIndy Cross Country, to talk about the race and how he feels about his squad going into the rest of the season. In their opening race of the season both squads finished 13th, Robinson said that while it was horrific, he would have liked to see a better finish.
"Nothing stellar, nothing horrific, just on par and steady. We were hoping for a little more collectively, but we got one under our belt now, so we'll put that behind us. But definitely looking forward, we're definitely looking to be top 10 on both sides, team wise," Robinson said. "But we'll regroup we'll prepare, learn from that one and definitely be much more, not only prepared, but in a better race plan by the time we get to the conference championship season."
On the men's side the top finish came in the form of
AJ Goecker and on the women's
Melissa Spencer, Robinson said that those two ran quality races and set the pace well.
"Leading the guys, particularly as well, AJ Goecker for us topping us off being very poised and disciplined. That was the most balanced and paced effort we've had from him to start the season. He's in a really good spot for where we want to transition and build moving forward throughout the year," Robinson said. "On the ladies' side, Melissa started us off pretty strong. got us rolling the ball that across the line first, definitely a career PR for that course, without a doubt, so that's exciting, where she's putting yourself in position by the time we get to conference as well."
Alongside the veterans running the course, there was a plethora of new athletes to the team that received their first taste of collegiate running. Robinson said that he saw some promise is a large amount of them, especially opening on a tough course.
"I was very pleased and happy with the way they put their necks out there kind of challenged themselves not knowing what for the men's side in the 8K distance would be like. For the ladies just the collegiate atmosphere, what it's going to be like for the 5k," Robinson said. "It felt like they all handled themselves very well and challenging themselves. So, a lot of optimism for the young crew and where they're starting with and only going to get faster from here."
With only two more races left before conference, Robinson said the goal will be consistent improvement.
"Reminding ourselves that we're not just going through the motions, what is the objective, what's the purpose in the workouts on a day-to-day basis?," Robinson said. "What are we doing step by step to prepare ourselves and not being afraid to mix it up by the time we get to conference in regionals and the postseason? Because we've got the ability but now, we just have to put it together with the race plan."
WOMEN's SOCCER
UIndy women's soccer had a date with the No. 15 team in the country in McKendree and they were up to the challenge. The high-powered Bearcats offense was held in their tracks by the Greyhounds, only allowing one goal. That was matched by the Greyhounds returning attacker
Kiki Sauceda who scored the tying goal in the 30th minute.
MEN'S SOCCER
It was a tight contest for the men's soccer squad as they ended their day with a 1-1 tie against McKendree.
Ibo Yilmaz was the man for the Greyhounds, as he netted the equalizer at the 15th minute.
