INDIANAPOLIS – Five UIndy women's lacrosse student-athletes are set to compete in international competition this summer, including four upperclassmen and one incoming freshman.
Emily Ghazal and
Malaena Michielin will represent Italy at the European Championships in Portugal from July 15-23, while
Sage Da Silva will compete for the host country during the nine-day stretch.
Meanwhile, IWLCA All-America midfielder
Olivia Bladon will represent Canada, while incoming rookie Kendall Conrad will play for Mexico at the U20 World Championships in August 2024 in Hong Kong.
"It's super exciting to see everything our players are accomplishing on the field outside of UIndy," said head coach
Peyton Romig. "Playing for their countries is a huge honor and we are excited to support each of them!"
While Bladon hails from Newmarket, Ontario, the other four Greyhounds have family roots connected to their respective countries: Ghazal's paternal grandparents and Michielin's maternal grandparents hail from Italy, Da Silva's parental grandparents were born Portugal, and one of Conrad's grandmothers is from Mexico.
"Being able to play with the best from each country will not only build them as players, but also as individuals," continued Romig. We're excited to watch them experience something this unique and will bring back to UIndy!"
