SAN FRANCISCO – UIndy men's soccer's
Alvaro Sanchez became a part of a National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) national championship winning team on Sunday against El Farolito, in a back-and-forth affair. Hickory FC raised their first national championship in club history, in just the team's second year of existence.
Sanchez was a key piece of the Trees' success in the postseason, as the junior midfielder
scored the game winner against the Lubbock Matadores in the South Region Final, while also
recording an assist on the team's second goal in the NPSL semfinal win for Hickory FC.
"Becoming a national champion was an unforgettable feeling, and with no doubt is one of the happiest and most special moments I've had since I arrived in this country," Sanchez said. "I'm eager to achieve it again."
Similar to his success for Hickory FC in the NPSL, the 2024 All-GLVC third team honoree excelled in his first season with the Greyhounds, appearing in all 18 games, including 10 starts. He also tallied four goals and one assist, while ranking third on the team in total shots (21) and points (9).
"I could not be happier for Alvaro," head coach
Gabe Hall said about the UIndy midfielder. "He is a relentless worker, and the ultimate competitor. His tireless dedication has paid off."
UIndy will look to emulate the success Sanchez saw this summer with Hickory FC, when they begin their 2025 campaign at home against Lincoln Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 at Key Stadium.
