Contreras Tabbed National Player of the Week

UIndy sophomore Alvin Contreras received national recognition Tuesday, earning Division II Defensive Player of the Week honors from D2Football.com. The linebacker and Indianapolis native contributed all over the box score in UIndy's 33-26 comeback win versus No. 20 Ashland last Saturday. Contreras becomes the first Greyhound to earn a national player of the week nod since Toriano Clinton in October of 2022.

From D2Football.com
Alvin Contreras accounted for three total takeaways that resulted in two defensive touchdowns and the game-winning scoring drive. In the second quarter he scooped up a fumble and raced 43 yards to the end zone. The score gave UIndy a 14-3 lead. Late in the fourth quarter, Contreras intercepted an Ashland pass that thwarted a potential game-sealing scoring drive. UIndy converted the possession into points with a 74-yard drive. On the game's final play, Contreras was around the ball once again and pounced on a fumble in the end zone, adding six more points and ending the game with a UIndy victory. He also contributed eight total tackles, five of them solo.
