RICHMOND, KY. — Battling a Midwest Region-heavy field for the first time since the Doc Spragg Invitational in the fall, the UIndy men's golf team claimed an 11th finish at the annual Findlay Spring Invitational, held at Boone's Trace National Golf Club.
10 of the top-15 teams from theÂ
final 2024-25 NCAA DII Midwest Regional rankings competed in this week's event, including the top-5 teams; Grand Valley, Missouri S&T, Wayne State, UMSL and Finday.Â
Senior
Jackson Watkins led the way for the Greyhounds in the two-day event, posting a +4 three-round score, which was good enough for a share of 33rd place, his best finish since his T18 at the
Oldfield Classic in February.
INS & OUTS
The Hounds came out firing on Monday in round one, sitting in solo third at -2 and only one shot behind the leaders Findlay and UMSL.
Alexander Nestun sat in a share for fifth at -3, while
Andrew Johnson was T10 at -2. Nestun's 69 (-3) was tied for his second best round of the year, which he posted at the
UIndy Fall Invitational.
Andrew Johnson also found himself a hole out eagle on the par-4 5th hole in round one, making his eagle one of 24 eagles in the field for the week.
The Hounds weren't able to find as much success as they did in round one, but the likes of Watkins and Nestun shot a pair of 73s (+1), which included seven combined birdies from the two Greyhounds. Watkins also posted a 73 (+1) in the final round, making it the 11th time this season he has shot a 73 or better in a round, the best of any Greyhound this season.
Drew Rowen and
Joseph Armfield rounded out the squad of five in Richmond, Ky., with Rowen grabbing a T85 finish (+14), while Armfield posted a T72 (+11). Rowen shot a -1 (71) in round three, making it his second best single score round of the season.
