INDIANAPOLISÂ - After experiencing an abrupt end to its previous season, the No. 6 UIndy women's lacrosse team is set to get back on the field for the 2021 season this weekend. The Greyhounds will open versus No. 22 Concordia-St. Paul, marking one of only two games on Saturday where both teams are ranked in
preseason top 25. The Hounds are 5-0 all-time versus the Golden Bears and look to make it six in a row at noon this Saturday at Key Stadium.
The Greyhounds had a hot start in the 2020 season, including a win against
No. 8 Florida Southern, and were 7-1 before the season was cut short. In their last full season in 2019, UIndy went 18-2 and was able to win its second straight conference title and earn another
NCAA DII Championship tournament berth.
Head coach
James Delaney returns for his fourth season with the program, alongside assistant coaches Erin Abbott-Gillin and
Abbie McEntee.Â
The Hounds will field an incredibly deep lineup this upcoming season, returning possibly more starters than any team in the country. The roster includes three-time All-American
Riley McClure, as well as
Peyton Romig, Division II's single-season record holder in draw controls. The Greyhounds have just as much to boast about on offense, showcasing UIndy's all-time leading scorer in
Grace Gunneson as well as
Abigail Lagos, who ranks sixth on that same list.
The Greyhounds' 2021 schedule will feature several ranked games both in and out of conference. After their matchup against Concordia-St. Paul, the Hounds will look to dethrone No. 4 Queens and later will battle against No. 2 Lindenwood in a matchup of GLVC heavyweights.
