NEW ORLEANS – Four student-athletes from the UIndy track & field teams recently earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Midwest Region honors.
Lauren Bailey (10K),
Katrinia Hopkins (discus),
Ben Nagel (800) and
Zoe Pentecost (hammer) all ranked in the top five in the region in their respective events.
Â
Bailey is a first-time all-region honoree in the 10,000 meters and second-time recipient in outdoor overall (5K, 2019). The Westfield, Ind., native and
indoor 5K national champion recently broke the school record in the 10K, with her time of 33:53.16 good for first in the GLVC, second in the Midwest and fourth in Division II. The senior standout will take the track one last time as a Greyhound at the upcoming
NCAA DII Outdoor Championships later this week.
Â
Like Bailey, Nagel is heading to Nationals this week. The junior out of nearby Mooresville, Ind., broke the UIndy record in the 800 with a time of 1:49.95 and later captured gold in the event at the
2021 GLVC Outdoor Championships. He currently ranks first in the GLVC, fifth in the Midwest and 12th in DII.
Â
Both UIndy throwers garnered their first career all-region nod, with Hopkins ranking third in the Midwest in the discus (49.00) and Pentecost third in the hammer throw. Both rank 19th in Division II in their respective event.
