GAME 1
Monumental Matchup
at Marian Knights (0-0)
Thursday // August 28
6 p.m. ET // Indianapolis, IN
Thursday kicks off the much-anticipated UIndy football season with the program's first-ever "Week Zero" game and third-ever
Monumental Matchup. The Greyhounds will make the short trek across town to face off against the Marian University Knights, rekindling a series that has been dormant for nearly a decade. The Knights came out on top in both previous encounters, winning
28-22 at home in September of 2015 before earning a
38-16 win at Key Stadium a year later.
One added element to this year's matchup... the head coaches played against each other in college. UIndy head coach
Chris Keevers and Marian head man Ted Karras were both Big Ten student-athletes back in the day, both starting defensive linemen. The two faced off on the gridiron on Nov. 1, 1986, when Keevers' Purdue Boilermakers edged Karras' Northwestern Wildcats, 17-16, with a last-second field goal.
This week yields the first of three non-conference contests for the Hounds, with the remaining two both featuring G-MAC opponents from Ohio. The Hounds head to the Buckeye State to face the University of Findlay in game No. 2 before hosting 2024 playoff-participant Ashland the following week for the home opener on Sept. 13. The Eagles are ranked No. 24 in the
DII preseason coaches poll while the Oilers also received votes.
