INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's golf team tees it up at the UIndy Fall Invitational on Monday Sept. 8 at Champions Pointe Golf Club.
This two-day event in Henryville, IN, consists of 12 teams, including two top-25 teams, UMSL and Lincoln Memorial, and eight other GLVC teams. The Greyhounds haven't hosted this event since 2023, when
the team placed sixth out of 16 teams.Â
"I am super excited for our season to get started next week," head coach Andy Serketich said. "We have 3 freshmen out of our 7 players and so we have a great mix of experience returning and new players who are ready to contribute."
Of the four returners for this season, three of them were part of the
2024 National Championship winning team;
Ava Ray,
Caroline Whallon and
Macey Brown. The other returner for the Hounds is sophomore,
Abby Stone, who posted a season best finish of 11th at the Pawley's Island Beach Bash in Aiken, S.C. Â
Ray will look to build on her 2024 season that saw her earn,
All-American honors after her
first collegiate win. While Whallon also claimed her
first individual win at the GLVC individual championships.Â
Â
The Hounds also add three new freshman with stellar resumes;
Lucile Ceolin,
Paige Giovenco, and
Valentina Cortez. Giovenco qualified for the 2023 and 2025 Junior PGA Championship, as well as a four-time
News and Tribune Sports Player of the Year. Ceolin earned a win in the French U16 Team Championships in 2022, and Cortez won five times with 21 top-10 finishes in her amateur career in Ecuador.Â
"I'm excited for all three of them to complete this week in their first collegiate event," Serketich said. "In particular,
Paige Giovenco, she's got a ton of talent, and if we had a GLVC freshman watch list, she would be high on that list."
Along with the addition of three new seniors, head coach Andy Serketich, who claimed the
2024 GLVC women's golf Coach of the Year honors, added a new graduate assistant to the staff,
Ellen Caton, a four-year player for the Hounds from 2022-25.Â
Â
"We are excited to get started, and I want to give huge thank you to our families, alums, and friends for all of their continued support," said Serketich.
