UIndy Secures Top-Five Directors’ Cup Finish

CLEVELAND– The University of Indianapolis capped an outstanding 2022-23 sports calendar with a top-five finish in the Division II LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, placing fourth among more than 300 NCAA Division II institutions. Perennially one of the top athletic programs in DII, UIndy has now finished in the Directors' Cup top 10 in nine of the last 10 years* and is one of only three DII institutions that can claim 15 consecutive top-20 showings*.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish at the NCAA Championships in up to 15 sports, four of which must be men's and women's basketball, baseball and volleyball. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's website at www.directorscup.org.

UIndy officially finished the year with 829.25 total points, 25.75 points behind third-place Colorado School of Mines. Meanwhile, Grand Valley State topped the standings with 936.75, followed by runner-up West Texas A&M with 904.75.

The Hounds' final tally was boosted by 462.75 points in the spring, most in Division II. UIndy racked up nine top-10 showings overall, including a maximum 100 points from the men's swimming & diving national championship. Men's tennis earned 83 points with a national semifinal appearance, while baseball's World Series run and women's golf quarterfinal showing both netted 73 points.

Women's swimming & diving racked up 90 points with its second straight national runner-up performance, softball earned a trip to the Super Regional, both men's and women's lacrosse teams advanced to the national quarterfinals, while wrestling placed seventh at nationals.

Other notable contributions came from women's indoor track & field (54.5 points) and women's tennis (50); while football, men's soccer and men's basketball earned 25 points apiece.

* no final standings were compiled in 2019-20 and 2020-21 due to the pandemic.
