Around the Pound

Like many things in our daily lives, athletics news has been has been greatly affected by COVID-19 concerns. UIndyAthletics.com will not be the same in the foreseeable future, but here is another edition of Around the Pound to highlight the happenings of the last week.. First off, here are links that convey the latest coronavirus updates from both the NCAA and GLVC.

SWIMMING & DIVING
The NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships was just a one-and-a-half days old when news of its cancellation came down Thursday afternoon. The abbreviated meet meet included one night of finals, which produced 11 All-America in five events for the Hounds.

TRACK & FIELD / WRESTLING
Both the NCAA DII Wrestling and Indoor Track & Field Championships were also cancelled. Unlike swimming, these events were cancelled before they started, though student-athletes had already made the trip. Three track & field student-athletes and five wrestlers were set to represent UIndy at Nationals.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
After advancing to the GLVC Tournament semifinal, the Greyhounds earned hosting rights for the NCAA DII Midwest Regional before news of the event's cancellation came down from the NCAA. Meanwhile, senior Jimmy King was named a D2CCA First Team All-Region selection, adding to his unanimous All-GLVC First Team honor last week.

WOMEN'S GOLF
In what was possibly the final UIndy athletics competition of the academic year, the second-ranked Greyhound women's golf team (300-281) capture both team and individual titles at the Augustana Spring Fling, hosted at Desert Willow Golf Club in Palm Desert, Calif., Thursday and Friday. The tournament included a record-tying performance from Elyse Stasil.

SOFTBALL
The No. 15 Greyhounds wrapped up their Spring Break trip to Winter Haven, Fla., with a five-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 41-2 in that span.

MEN'S GOLF
UIndy student-athlete Oliver Mast was voted the GLVC Men's Golf Player of the Week, as he and teammate Erik Edwards shared runner-up honors in Las Vegas.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
A slow start doomed the No. 6 UIndy women's lacrosse team last week, as a second-half surge was too late in its non-conference contest against top-ranked Le Moyne at the U.S. Lacrosse Facility in Baltimore, Md.

MEN'S LACROSSE
The No. 14 Hounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead on fourth-ranked Belmont Abbey, but the Crusaders ran away from the visiting Hounds in the second half to win, 15-6.

BASEBALL
The UIndy baseball team was back on the road Wednesday for a midweek double header against Purdue Northwest.

TENNIS
Both UIndy tennis team headed west from their Spring Break trip. The Greyhounds would have played some top competition in the Lone Star State but were forced to come home prior to competing.
