BALTIMORE, Md. -Â After a sudden end to the 2020 season due to COVID-19, the UIndy men's lacrosse team will kick off the 2021 season with an official top-10 ranking from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) preseason ranking at No. 10 in Division II.
Last season the Greyhounds were tabbed as the
No. 8 team in the nation, their highest debut in program history, ending the short season at No. 14 on a 2-3 season record that featured two teams inside the top five at that time. The Hounds were able to take two wins out of the gate against
Westminster and
Lake Erie, then a road trip that consisted of
Wingate (No. 12),
Mercyhurst (No. 4) and
Belmont Abbey (No. 4) dropped UIndy from amongst the nation's best.
Head coach
Greg Stocks, who began the UIndy men's lacrosse program in 2016, returns for his sixth season. Stocks was named
DII Coach of the Year back after a historic 2019 season, where the Greyhounds made their way to the
national semifinals against Limestone.
Kansai Garey led the team in both scoring and points before the season's abrupt end, being the only Greyhound to score double-digit goals (11). Junior
Drew Billig, a
2020 USILA Preseason All-American, has dished the most assists in each of the last two seasons, gathering double-digits points last season (10). Redshirt-senior
Jack Belobrajdic leads the Hounds' back line, collecting 18 ground balls last season along with seven collected turnovers.Â
The Greyhounds will open as the GLVC's highest ranked team in the conference, but feature two other programs among the top 25. Lindenwood sits as No. 14 in the poll and Rockhurst sits tied at the No. 16 spot.Â
UIndy begins its season on Feb. 6 at Key Stadium, hosting the visiting Lewis Flyers at a 2 p.m. start time.
